Designing and Building a Motorcycle
from Scratch

From CAD to checkered flag — a student-led race engineering team.

About us

A student-built motorcycle, end to end.

We are a student-led motorcycle engineering team based at the University of Sheffield. Made up primarily of engineering students, our goal is to design, build, and race a fully original motorcycle for the 2027 MotoStudent competition. The project brings together mechanical design, manufacturing, testing, and race engineering — giving members hands-on experience you can't get in a lecture theatre.

The journey

Where engineering meets competition

Design & Development

Concept, CAD, simulation and iteration. Frame geometry, aerodynamics, powertrain integration.

02

Manufacturing & Assembly

Machining, welding, composite layup and assembly — turning drawings into a rideable machine.

03

Validation & Testing

Dyno runs, shakedowns, data-logging and iterative tuning to prove the bike is race-ready.

The team

Engineers, designers, racers.

We're a cross-discipline group of Sheffield engineering students — mechanical, aerospace, electrical — with one shared goal: put a bike we built ourselves on the grid at MotoStudent 2027. Every chassis node, every line of CAD and every hour in the workshop has a name behind it.

New members welcome across all years. If you want to turn coursework into a real machine, get in touch.

Sponsor the build. Back the team.
